Inspiring the youth of new generations is one of the most important things we can do as adults. In a world which currently favors the pure study of core math/science skills, it is important that we allow young people to also expand the creative side of their minds. Many traditions favor a very structured/disciplined approach to music study. While I feel that this is an important component when learning how to play an instrument, I believe that this must be balanced by an emphasis on how to be creative with these same learned skills. A combination approach of discipline and creativity can stimulate learning at an accelerated pace and create a more well rounded musician in the end.
